Introduction

M-Connect can be configured to allow access to internal M-Files users as well as users without M-Files accounts. The following security guides describe the roles internal and external users play as well as ways to configure the security of the portal to satisfy various use cases.

User Types

Internal Users

Logging In

M-Connect grants all internal M-Files users the ability to log in to the portal. Because multiple workspaces can be pointed to multiple vaults, internal users are only able to log in to workspaces in which they have vault access.

Data Access

When internal M-Files users interact with page widgets such as the Data View and Search widgets, their access levels will be granted based on the current security rights within M-Files. For example, if a user is able to create a new revision of an item within M-Files, they will also be granted that right within M-Connect.

Administrators

M-Connect administrator rights are given to internal M-Files users with vault or server level admin access.

External Users

M-Connect can be configured to grant access to external users, via an external or internal user registration process. Access rights for external users can be set at the page and document level.

External User Objects

External users are stored as objects within M-Files that contains special properties for email, password, workspace access rights, content profiles, etc. To set this up, specific aliases map to object and properties which allows M-Connect to know where how to store the data.

External User Objects

Note

An External User content pack is available to quickly configure your vault with the appropriate objects and properties. Please content TEAM for more information.
